Step-by-Step Guide to Applying Tattoo Aftercare

Applying tattoo aftercare correctly is crucial for optimal healing.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to ensure you’re doing it right:

1.      Clean Your Tattoo: Start by gently washing your tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented soap. Avoid using a washcloth or sponge, as these can be abrasive. Use your hands to softly cleanse the area, removing any residual ink.

2.      Pat Dry: After washing, pat the tattoo dry with a clean, soft towel. Do not rub or scrub the area, as this can irritate the skin. Ensure the tattoo is completely dry before applying any balm.

3.      Apply the Balm: Take a small amount of aftercare balm—about the size of a pea—and gently rub onto the tattooed area and leave the skin to absorb the cream. Use clean hands and apply the balm in a thin, even layer. Massage it in gently until it's fully absorbed. Avoid applying too much balm, as over-moisturizing can slow down the healing process - with Afterart, a little goes a long way.

4.      Repeat: Follow this routine 3-4 times a day for 7-10 days or until tattoo is fully healed. Consistency is key to ensuring your tattoo heals properly.

Remember to wash your hands before each application to prevent introducing bacteria to the healing tattoo.

Don't pick or scratch the tattoo, don't expose it to the sun, keep your tattoo clean and free from dust & dirt, and don't swim or soak for 14 days, and always follow your artist's instructions.

For an existing or older tattoo, you can moisturize and protect your tattoos with AfterArt twice daily.
